The SME Competitiveness Facility (SCF) has launched a study of the dynamics, constraints and opportunities in the fruit and vegetable sub sector in Tanzania. Match Maker Associates Consultants are carrying out the study, which aims at identifying potential value chains that will identify key products for value addition for export and will thus contribute to employment creation and economic growth for Tanzania. The consultants will be assisted by two interns from SCF.
The Analysis which will focus on the potential of the Lushoto, Tanga, Moshi, Arusha fruit and vegetable corridor as well as strategic interventions to increase access to markets of fruit and vegetable sub-sectors elsewhere in the country, is expected to be finalized by February 2008.
SCF will disseminate the research findings to all key stake holders in Tanzania who may collaborate to improve performance of the sector. Concrete interventions will be implemented on the basis of the recommendations.
